Weekend Workouts

April 13, 2014

Howdy, friends!

Somehow, it is already Sunday, and Monday is looming on the horizon.  I swear, one of these days, I am going to take one of those ‘stay-cations’ and just hang around the house in my comfy pants and not.go.anywhere.

(all right, who am I kidding, I’m sure I would find somewhere to go and something to do…but still, it would be great!

The sun is making more and more of an appearance around these parts and it is actually starting to feel warm.  The snow is melting, which means that puddles and muddy roads are everywhere.  I couldn’t stand the atrocity that was my car so I took it through the car wash Friday morning after I was done at the gym.  As I was pulling in, this guy was waiting to greet me:

Just another day in Alaska!

Saturday morning, I was back at the gym bright and early to get my own workout done before I trained a few clients and then taught my Cross Training class.  I started off on the treadmill where I completed a super quick (like less than 20 minutes) incline/sprint workout.  Here is how it went:

Though my time on the treadmill was over before I knew it, I was sweaty and tired when I was done.  I then moved onto a lower body workout which left my legs absolutely burning, hence the title:

Here is a video demonstrating candle stick jumps.  Do them!  They are tough!

After all that incline running and legs, I knew I needed to spend some time stretching (ugh!) and even hang out with my nemesis, the foam roller.  I know, in my heart of hearts, that I need to be better about stretching and rolling – my muscles heal so much faster after a rough workout and much of my lower back issues subside.  What can I say, I’m pretty hard-headed sometimes.

Sunday’s often start out pretty slow in our house.  Usually it is the one day of the week that I don’t wake up to an alarm (at least not on the Sundays when I have clients) and sleep until my body says it’s time to wake up.  Today was one of those Sunday’s!  I woke up around 7am and, soon after, snuck out of the house to buy us some cinnamon rolls for breakfast.  I regret not snapping a picture of these beautiful confections because they were huge, fluffy, and oh so cinnamon-y!  Yes, all that bread and sugar isn’t great for us but they way I see it, you have to live a little every once in a while!

The rest of today is pretty much going to consist of tackling that to-do list, getting an Insanity workout done, and enjoying some iced coffee:

Summer is so close I can (literally) taste it!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!
