Not a vegetable in sight!

December 8, 2013

Joe made dinner for us Friday night.  He masterfully marinated some steaks and even busted out the grill to cook them on.  He also boiled some beautiful purple potatoes….do you see what is missing here?

Not a vegetable in sight.

Not a vegetable for days.

Sigh.  I’m more of a fanatic when it comes to having vegetables than Joe is, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

Either way, the steak was phenomenal!!

Workout – Thursday

On Thursday I subbed my last Wake Up Call class — though the class was small, we had a sweaty good time!  Immediately following that class, I set up for my Cross Training Boot Camp. Their workout was a ’12 days of Christmas’ rep scheme (i could have sworn i tool a picture of the white board but i can’t seem to find it — i’ll snap a picture tomorrow and then share it with you!)

After class and after training a few more clients it was finally my turn to workout.  Outside of the classes that I taught all week, I hadn’t had the chance to do my own workout so it was nice to go off on my own, in my own world, and get some work done.  Here is the circuit that I did:

It was back to the physical therapist for me on Friday.  He seems to think that there is something damaged/injured in the cartilage of my left knee and that high impact exercises (you know, like all that i do!) seems to be the problem.  After being off of running for a little over 2 weeks, I was really looking forward to getting back to it again.

Apparently that is a no-go for launch!

What’s worse, he suggests that I slow-my-roll (as the kids say) even more and not do any sort of plyometrics at all.

For 6 weeks.

WHAT THE WHAT!!??

No running AND no plyo’s?  I’m might as well chew my wrists open!

I am struggling with this not only because I am aching to get back to my usual workouts, but because the classes that I teach are jam-packed full of plyos and cardio.  Not sure what I am going to do with this predicament.

Grrrr!

My Saturday started off smashingly…..I slept in until 7am!

It was a treat!  After a lazy breakfast and some coffee, I busted out my Insanity DVD’s and spent an hour working out at home.  It was pretty fun and was certainly a great workout.

The rest of my day was spent at our first actual gymnastics meet.  Our first competition was set to be a few weeks ago but bad weather caused the meet, which was a 3 hour drive away, to be cancelled.  It is typical that food and drinks are provided for the coaches and judges throughout the day however, not knowing what sort of choices I would have before me, I made sure to eat before I left home.

And I am so glad that I did!

Look at the trap that I walked into:

Pardon the expression, but that is a shit-ton of pizza!  And if you look closely, you can see cookies, donuts, and cinnamon rolls!  What are these people trying to do to me?  I am so glad that I showed up with a full stomach which really made it much easier for me to ignore that delicious, cheesy, temptation.

The meet went fairly well though it was a bit of an eye opener.  Competitions are always a little rough at the beginning of the season — on the one-hand, my athletes are always nervous about how they are going to do yet on the other, they are often over confident.  Strange I know.

It usually takes getting a few competitions under their belts before they get into their groove, however it is always a little nerve-racking for me.

I had a few clients this morning (well by morning I mean starting at 10am) and then I did my own cardio workout which consisted of 20 minutes on the step mill and 20 minutes on the arc trainer.  It wasn’t crazy intense but I did enjoy zoning out to the TV for a while!

This afternoon we were at my parents house setting up the Christmas tree.  I always enjoy going through all of the ornaments and decorations we have collected over the years and decorating the living room for the holidays.  Here is the end product:

I’m hoping that Joe and I will have time this coming week to pick out our own tree and decorate it — I long for that amazing Christmas tree smell that fills the house this time of year!
