Making it up as I go

May 21, 2013

Traveling is always a little disorienting for me.  Even when I am in the same time zone (hell, in the same state) it always takes some time for me to adjust to the new surroundings, the new schedule, the new pattern of the day.

I woke up at about 6 this morning having one of those “where the hell am I” moments which is always a crappy way to start the day!  Not wanting to wake my fellow travelers by getting out of bed, making my breakfast, and getting ready to head to the gym, I laid in bed and eventually fell back asleep.

I finally got out of bed and moving around 8am — PB toast, cold cereal, and hot coffee — finally, I was ready to get my day going.

Workout

The gym here in Valdez (literally….theis small, but is always a welcome sight for me.  The gym has been some-what under construction since the last time I was there so I didn’t know what to expect.   I didn’t plan my workout ahead of time because I hadn’t a clue what sort of equipment would be there.  Being the planner that I am, this was foreign to me.

I was grateful to find an available and working treadmill, so I started my workout with 25 minutes of sprint intervals:

After I was done on the treadmill, I took a minute to survey what sort of equipment I had at my disposal and then, on the fly, came up with this quick circuit workout:

I figured doing the Bear Complex (clean – front squat – push press – back squat – push press) was a quick way to get lots of full body work done in a minimal amount of time.  It worked pretty well!

After I was done with circuit, I did a couple rounds of sit ups on the decline bench to round out today’s workout.

Going into tomorrow, knowing what sort of equipment is waiting for me, I can be better prepared with an awesome workout!
