Twin birthday!

February 17, 2013

After a night of strange dreams, I rolled out of bed around 8am.  I didn’t feel the need to set my alarm last night and I figured I would wake up when I was good and ready.

Workout 2.17.2013

As I was leaving the gym yesterday, I was already planning today’s workouts.  The cross training classes have been lacking in a lot of the exercises that I enjoy doing so I made sure to incorporate those into today’s circuit.  I didn’t make it to the gym until about 1:30 this afternoon.  After breakfast I got some studying done as well as tackled some chores around the house.  I started off with 30 minutes of cardio split between the treadmill and the step mill.  Here is how it went:

When that first 15 minutes was up on the treadmill, I was a little over 1.5 miles so I figured I would continue running until I hit 2 miles (I like even numbers it appears) which, in total, took me 17:40.

After completing all this cardio, I set up for the following circuit workout:

3 rounds

I used a 30 pound kettle bell for the KB Swings and a 50 pound barbell for the Dead Lifts and the Push Press.  It took me about 22 minutes to complete this entire circuit and I was pretty worn out by the time it was over.  I was already very sore from yesterday’s workout — mostly my chest and shoulders — and I am already feeling that wonderful tightness in my legs from this workout!

Twin Birthday:

A friend and I share the same birthday so we typically have a joint birthday party that his very gracious wife throws for us.  Tonight, we celebrated our upcoming birthday with dinner, presents, and cakes with our nearest and dearest.  I say cakes because our tradition is to bake a cake for each other and we tend to get pretty creative with the cakes we make.  This year, knowing of his unending fondness of Legos, I decided to make him a Lego cake:

So not my best decorating job by any means; if I would have had more time today, I would have used fondant to get a smoother, more finished look.  I also don’t like how the colors of the frosting are so pastel-like — I was afraid to add too much food coloring because it can give the frosting a weird flavor.  Ah well, it still got a good laugh and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

For the cake that he made me (which I failed to get a picture of because I am the worst friend in the world) he — knowing my love of all things Elvis — made me a peanut butter and banana cake.  It was a cake decorated with Reeses peanut butter cups and banana slices and was pretty darn good if you ask me!

For the most part, it was a productive weekend.  I have a lot of things on the back burner that really, really need my attention and I, unfortunately, was unable to get to them in favor of completing other tasks this weekend.  I apparently need to be better about time management!!

This week is shaping up to be a pretty busy one on top of the fact that I am going out of town in the next few days.  I should get some sleep because I am really going to be needing it this week!
