It’s Good To Be Back!!
The gym was great this morning — I am starting to feel like my old self again. Before we get to that, though, let’s talk about last nights dinner.
Like I mentioned yesterday, I made home-made chicken soup for dinner.
Last week I purchased a rotisserie chicken for dinner and saved the carcass to use for soup. I placed the carcass in a large pot of salted water and boiled it for about 50 minutes until the water was reduced by 2/3 and a broth remained.
After removing the carcass from the broth, I removed any remaining meat and then threw the carcass away. To the broth I added the chicken meat (and some that was left over from dinner last week), 4 ribs of celery — chopped, 6 carrots (some of which came from our garden!) — chopped, a yellow onion — chopped, 1 scoop of rice, the juice of 1 lemon, salt and pepper, and 2 bay leaves.
I let all that simmer for about 30 minutes and bam! dinner was ready.
After all this taking it easy because of all the junk in my lungs that I have been coughing up for a week I was ready to get back to my usual workouts. I proclaimed several days ago that today was the day that I was taking back the treadmill and boy did it feel good.
And I was running! (be sure to reread that last sentence in your best Forrest Gump voice.)
I did a run 4 minutes/sprint 1 minute interval that went a little something like this:
It was a great 35 minutes with minimal hacking and coughing!
I then did 5 dead hang pull ups and yeah, I kind of felt like a boss!
After that I did another AMRAP circuit. Here it is:
* for these push ups do 3 with hands together, 3 military push ups, 3 with hands wide and 3 pike push ups. I used a 40 pound barbell for the Clean & Press and the Squat & Calf Raise. I was almost done with 4 rounds when the timer went off but I decided to go a little over time and complete the 4th round.
Oh, it was a great morning at the gym — it is days like this that keep me coming back for more.
