Rough Workout

October 4, 2012

I figured I was recovering from this flu so quickly that today was the day to get back to running on the treadmill.

I figured wrong.

Very, very wrong.

I planned out a treadmill workout that not only included my usual sprint intervals but I also worked in some walking breaks in hopes of not over doing it too much.

I should have just walked the entire thing — my lungs were not ready for all that activity so I was continually having to stop and try to catch my breath (in between the coughing fits, mind you.)

Now, I am not one who likes to admit when she is wrong — a piece of my pride dies every time I have to do it but I am thinking that perhaps I should have taken this flu a little more seriously and perhaps gone a little easier on the last few workouts.

What is it they say about hindsight?

Oh well.

The funny thing is I don’t know if I will do anything differently the next time I get sick — I was pretty much raised to ignore being ill and being hurt.

We had to be missing an eyeball before we were taken to the doctor or allowed to miss school/activities.  I think that upbringing has caused me to be able to recognize when I need to “suck it up” and keep at it and not let minor difficulties get in the way.

Workout 10/4/2012

Here is the treadmill circuit that I staggered through this morning:

I followed that with 2 sets of 3 kipping pull ups.

And finally I did this AMRAP circuit:

I originally had skaters in this circuit but I tried a few on my right leg and that knee threw quite a fit.  I am not sure what is going with it but it needs to stop now!

I used 8 pound dumbbells for the Push Up Rows (note to self: use 15’s next time) and a 40 pound barbell for the Dead Lift and Upright Row.

I was half way through my 3rd round when the timer went off — apparently I am still moving pretty slow.

Really, though, I just wanted this workout to be over and done with.  I wasn’t feeling it at all and kept checking the timer every few minutes.  I hate having that approach to a workout and thank goodness it doesn’t happen often but it still kind of ruins if for me.

I guess the silver lining here is that I get another crack at it tomorrow and I hope to have a better attitude while I’m doing it.

I will let you know how it goes.  🙂
