“Rest” Day

September 8, 2012

Well, someone had her poutey pants on yesterday!

As I lamented yesterday, I knew that I needed to take a break and allow my body to recover.  I also mentioned that my version of a rest day is not to stop all exercise but rather dial it back a bit.

I wanted to get out and run today.

The air is crisp and fragrant.

The colors are the definition of fall.

The trails are peaceful and and at times all my own.

I wanted to be out amongst all of it so out I went.

I decided I was only going to run 3 miles so I brought Sadie along as my running buddy.  Now, I have tried running more mileage with her but at around 4 miles she seems to get bored and starts jumping on me and trying to get me to play with here.  This is not conducive to a decent run.

In fact, during our entire 3 miles together, I had to continually remind myself that this was an easy run not a run for time.

Which is a good thing since 3 miles took us, after numerous bathroom breaks (hers not mine) and stops that seemed like they were bathroom breaks but really all she wanted was to sniff around, 34:10!!

Definitely not going to PR running with this dog!

My brain/body apparently knew it was a “rest” day because at one point during the day, I sat down on the couch and woke up nearly 2 hours later!! I rarely ever take naps, much to my chagrin, so today’s was a pleasant surprise.

I am really looking forward to hitting up the gym tomorrow.  If there isn’t a workout waiting for me when I get there, I am going to do another circuit that includes a 1 mile sprint.  Can’t wait!
