Loving This Workout!
I rarely sleep in — even on weekends and holidays. On the rare occasion that I sleep later than usual, I always feel that I am missing something or that 1/2 the day is wasted by the time I crawl out of bed.
Usually I am up between 5:30am and 6:30am. I like to take my time in the morning — eating breakfast, watching the news and drinking my coffee.
It has become a habit to get up hours before I really need to and I appreciate the extra time that this habit affords me.
Even on glorious 3-day weekends such as these I am up early.
Just about every morning I wake up ravenous so a quick breakfast is always in order. Today I had my usual peanut butter toast with chia seeds (just can’t live without it) and a bowl of overnight oats (oh so yumm) to which I added about a 1/2 tablespoon of raspberry rhubarb syrup that we got at the State Fair and a splash of rice milk.
Eventually Joe and I made it to the gym. I wanted to try something a little different than my usual run-on-the-treadmill-for-a-while-then-do-circuit-workout workout. (Oooh, spell check does not like that string of words — you guys should see all the angry, red, squiggly underlines!)
Today I decided to incorporate the running that I usually do into the circuit.
I warmed up with 10 minutes on the treadmill at a 4.0 pace on a 4.0 incline.
I then did 2 disgustingly sad pull ups — apparently I am still recovering from the torture that was Saturday’s workout.
After that it was on to this circuit and boy was it fun:
I completed 4 rounds in 49:51 minus the 2 minutes that I was in the restroom…tmi?
Mile 1 = 8:57
Mile 2 = 8:27
Mile 3 = 8:03
Mile 4 = 7:51
I used a 40 pound barbell for the Squat & Press and the Dead Lift.
I kept the number of exercises low because I didn’t know what to expect from this workout — next time I will add a few more exercises to this circuit.
What was killing me was that I would get off the treadmill huffing and puffing, do the rest of the circuit and I wouldn’t have caught my breath before I was off and running again. It was killer.
I loved it though — it was such a great workout and definitely a challenge.
Have you ever wondered why Crossfitters wear these super fun socks:
It’s to avoid this:
It happens when you aren’t paying attention to your Dead Lift form and scrape your shin on the barbell. I have actually read about this happening so I was trying to be super careful but I was beat by the time the last set of Dead Lifts rolled around and I just got lazy.
It’s nothing a little hydrogen peroxide can’t fix.
Today was the last day of the Alaska State Fair. Typically the vendors drastically discount their wares and this included the booth that sold the fresh grown-in-Alaska veggies. They were offering a decent sized empty box for $25 and you got to fill it with all of the veggies you could stuff in there.
It was like a feeding frenzy there with people dumping carrots, peanut potatoes, cabbage etc. into their boxes. I made off with a box full of zucchini, cabbage, carrots, peanut potatoes, purple potatoes, squash and kohlrabi (whatever the hell that is.) I’m excited to use all the veggies in the near future.
Tomorrow is another morning at the gym full of running, circuiting, sweating and every other wondrous thing that comes along with that — I can’t wait!
