The Mosquito Attack Was Worth It!

August 27, 2012

Blueberry picking was a success!! I am just going to hop right in and tell you all about it!

Joe, my sister and I drove about an hour out of Anchorage to Girdwood which is home to the Alyeska Ski Resort and the place where we go to pick blueberries every year.  Just minutes outside of Girdwood I saw a Beluga Whale just as it was going back under the water — no matter how many times I see them, it is always exciting!

It had been raining off and on all day so we made sure to be prepared with head-to-toe rain gear — thank goodness we did!

We clambered our way up the mountain to the spot where the berries grow.  I managed a few quick sprints going up the hill though it was pretty tough in all my rain gear.  This year we didn’t have go up too high because the mountain was over flowing with blueberries just waiting to be picked.

We spent about 4 hours out there and each came away with tons of berries.  The mosquitoes were terrible!  At times I would look at my sister and she had a halo of the blood suckers flying around her head.  Oh, they were vicious!

It was worth braving the mosquitoes, though.

Not to mention, on top of all the blueberries we scored, Sadie got to run around like crazy with one of my sister’s dogs so she was sufficiently worn out by the time we got home.  Here are some pictures from the trip:

1) These boots are part of my rain gear — I’m a fan of them. 2) View from the parking lot — those berries are up there somewhere! 3) About 1/2 way up. 4) Look-ey what we have here. 5) They’re everywhere!  6) These are called salmon berries — they look like an unripe raspberry and they are good eatin’. 7) Wet and happy dogs. 8) My bucket about 1/2 full. 9) Close up.

We finished out the evening with a decadent meal at The Double Musky Restaurant.  So much food!  So many leftovers!

Workout 8/27/2012

(How did that happen??  August is almost over!!)

I was watching the scenery go by as we were on our way home last night and I took the time to concoct this treadmill sprint interval workout — I call it Sprint Your Heart Out:

I huffed and puffed the entire 35 minutes and for several minutes afterward.  Me likey this one!

After I was done on the treadmill I completed my workout with 15 minutes of the step mill which left my heart pounding.  All in all a great cardio workout.

Peace out!
