Busy, busy….bee?

August 16, 2012

Things have been a little hectic around here so I am stopping by to write up a few, quick items before I hobble off to bed.

Workout 8/15/2012

I decided to stay in for my workout this morning.  I wasn’t feeling the crisp morning air nor did I feel like dragging myself to the gym so I popped in an Insanity DVD and got my sweat on.

I look so much cooler when I do diamond jumps….or not.

I’m sure you have all seen the infomercials for Insanity at some point when you were up late at night.  I am not going to say much about what I think about the workouts because I have another post in the works where I am discussing all the different workout programs that I have tried.

This particular workout was just under an hour long with lots of plyometrics, push ups and squats.  I was sweating and breathless by the time the workout was done and now, a mere 12 hours later, I am starting to feel the soreness in my legs.  I must have done something right!

Later in the day I also did a super quick circuit workout.  Here is what I did:

3 rounds of the following for time:

Squats  20

Sit Ups  15

Push Ups  10

Burpees  5

I completed three rounds in 6:58.  Again, a really quick workout but I was sweaty when I was done — that counts for something, right?

Those exercises are very simple and very effective.  They require no equipment other than your own body weight and can easily be done at home.

Well, they can be easily done at home unless of course a certain someone decides that she should be the center of attention:

I swear I am not naked. My shorts didn’t show up in the pic…honest!

She crawled her way under me while I was stretching.  Yup, stretching — go me!

What a nut job!

And this one happened later when I was in the middle of squat jumps.  She is so helpful.

We have a lot of left over cooked quinoa in our fridge so instead of letting it go to waste I made up some roasted vegetables and put them on top of about 1/2 cup quinoa and called it lunch.

The veggies that I roasted are brussel sprouts, carrots and yams.

I swear there is quinoa in there somewhere.

This meal is always delicious and always very filling which is why it is a favorite at lunch time.

We received another Full Circle Farm box today:

Our loot includes lettuce, carrots, red potatoes, broccoli, zucchini, crooked neck squash, avocados (!), onions, donut peaches, pluots and nectarines.  Looking forward to eating all this healthy goodness.

Lastly and a little off topic — Joe purchased a sh*t ton of firewood today so we had the lucky chore of unloading it at home and stacking it on the wood-rack-holder-majigger (of course right at the exact time I am trying to watch So You Think You Can Dance.  Perfect timing).  As I was loading up my pile to carry I ran into this charming fellow:

That demon creature sent straight from the burning caverns of hell was the length and girth (!!) of my thumb — and I have man hands!!!

And though you can’t see it very well in the picture it had a stinger about 1/3 the length of its body.

(ACK! I’m getting itchy just thinking about that death-creature-sent-here-to-enslave-us-all!!!)

But really, what the hell is that?

What’s worse — yes, it gets worse — there were 2 of them!!!

Dudes, I am telling you, I am not a squeamish, scared of bugs type of a gal — I’m really not.  But this horrid mutant bug the size of a sparrow sent me running for the hills.

I know, I just know I am going to have nightmares about this thing.  I think I should start a pot of coffee and pull an all-nighter.  Perhaps Insanity has some new infomercials on tonight…..(see what I did there?)

“Can’t sleep, clown’ll eat me.  Can’t sleep, clown’ll eat me.” (Simpsons)

The rest of the week should be pretty mellow so I plan on actually writing all the posts that have been floating around in my noggin.’

Peace out!
